What is good about my job?

• Working alongside schools from across Europe
• It is such an exciting role. No two days are the same

My one piece of advice to school students:

Think outside the box and look at all different types of career paths. You do not have to know what you want to be straight away, take your time and enjoy the journey.

What I wanted to be at age 11?

I wanted to be a nurse

How did I get here?

• A levels
• Degree in Media Studies & Production
• Junior Production Coordinator
• Senior Production Coordinator

What do I do?

• Type and distribute daily filming schedules
• Manage finances, accounts, expenses, insurances and risk assessments
• Book hotels, taxis & flights and assist cast and crew

What is good about my job?

• Seeing what it takes to make a TV show from every aspect
• Working in a small team and getting to know everyone

What soft skills are important in my job?

• Working under pressure
• Communication skills
• Managing more than one project at a time

My one piece of advice to school students:

Don’t be afraid to take a chance on yourself. Look at every opportunity possible. If I had known there were internships, I don’t think I would’ve gone to Uni.

What I wanted to be at age 11?

A Solicitor!

How did I get here?

• GCSEs and A Levels
• Queens Degree in Computer Science and Programming
• Software Tester:  Junior, Graduate, levels 1, 2, 3, Senior Supervisor, Team Lead and now Engineering Manager

What do I do?

• Manage Software Engineers who write and code the software
• Manage Software Test Engineers who try to break this code
• Manage Graphic Designers who make the software easy to use
• Ensure everyone is trained properly and managing their work

What is good about my job?

• We help big customers like football clubs and airlines
• My confidence levels – I am a quiet person but can now talk in front of groups

What soft skills are important in my job?

• Teamwork and taking responsibility for your own work
• Problem solving
• Having a good work ethic and helping out when you can

My one piece of advice to school students:

Never be afraid to ask questions, there is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to learning something new, only stupid answers.

What I wanted to be at age 11?

It changed every week between a Fireman, Soldier, Astronaut, Pilot, Police Officer, Detective and a Dinosaur.

How did I get here?

• GCSEs and A Levels
• Degree in Geography and Masters in Management & Corporate Governance
• Moved from Sales Development Rep to Customer Experience Cloud Implementation Lead to Risk Management Team Lead to
  Customer Onboarding Manager

What do I do?

• Manage the team responsible for onboarding new customers
• Manage as they advise customers on best practice and implementation

What is good about my job?

• Watching the team strive for success
• Lightbulb moments when the team relay information to customers and they get it
• Being involved in a growing, fast-paced company with a global footprint

What soft skills are important in my job?

• Good communication skills
• Good time management skills
• Good listening skills

My one piece of advice to school students:

Step out of your comfort zone and learn skills across areas and subjects that scare you slightly.

What I wanted to be at age 11?

A Radiographer but I ended up on a completely different path.

How did I get here?

• GCSEs, A Levels and College
• Apprentice Application Developer with Fujitsu / NWRC
• Moved to Associate Application Development then Application Developer

What do I do?

• I work on several apps to develop add-ons, updates and fixes
• Provide user end support for all issues users come up with

What is good about my job?

• Given a good deal of independence and trust to complete our work
• Great, healthy work / life balance working 9-5 Monday to Friday
• Good pay, good holidays and a good chance of progression

What soft skills are important in my job?

• Communicating effectively with users, customers and team members
• Multi-tasking and managing my time
• Problem solving along with creative and critical thinking

My one piece of advice to school students:

Do not sit still – keep progressing and doing your best. Push yourself hard each day and make employers value you highly.

What I wanted to be at age 11?

I wanted to be a jet pilot but as I am colour blind this dream was over

How did I get here?

• GCSEs + BTecs, A Levels
• Degree in Information Technology
• Started as a Graduate then was promoted to train as a Fullstack Developer

What do I do?

• Assist with development of new web / mobile applications
• Work with multiple teams on designing
• Implementing and testing front/back end of the website

What is good about my job?

• It’s a well-paid job with flexible working and a great work/life balance
• There are loads of jobs in this sector and I can move within the company if I want
• I learn something new each day working with people across the globe

Work hard towards your dream, believe in yourself and keep your options open

What I wanted to be at age 11?

A Primary School Teacher

How did I get here?

• GCSEs, A Levels
• Degree in Business with Human Resource Management
• Masters degree in Human Resource Management

What do I do?

• Finding candidates for roles throughout various disciplines in our wider team
• All duties relating to the recruitment process
• First contact candidates have with the studio
• Liaise with all teams to identify their needs as our team grows

What is good about my job?

• Getting to speak to and meet with people all over the world
• Working with a passionate and creative team
• Opportunity to learn and grow

• Patience

• Passion / Self-drive

My one piece of advice to school students:

Choose the right path for you, you may not take the traditional education route, but regardless make sure you plan your journey well.

What I wanted to be at age 11?

A nurse, until I split my head and the sight of blood almost made me faint

• GCSEs, A Levels
• Degree in Computer Science; currently studying towards a PhD
• Started Allstate as a Machine Learning Engineer

What do I do?

• Stay up to date with the latest advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI)
• Carry out research and use AI to find new innovative ways to solve problems

What is good about my job?

• Working with great people
• Learning about all the latest advancements in the Field of AI

• Reading & researching
• Good written communication skills
• Good verbal communication skills

Be open minded. There are many different paths you can take to get to where you want to be
